Program 8: Leadership Academy Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders Today The Leadership Academy is a premier program designed to identify, cultivate, and amplify the voices of exceptional young leaders. Tailored for 24 students (12 young women and 12 young men), this program equips participants with the skills, confidence, and network they need to create meaningful change in their schools, communities, and beyond. Program Highlights 1. Recognition & Media Features Students gain exposure through high-profile opportunities, including: Features on Channel 3 and Channel 8 news. Coverage by UCONN media outlets for interviews and thought leadership. Partnerships with organizations like the Dunkin’ Donuts Foundation, showcasing student achievements and projects. 2. Leadership Development Curriculum Core Modules: Public speaking and effective communication. Problem-solving and critical thinking. Conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Event planning, project management, and community organizing. Specialized Tracks: Advocacy and civic engagement. Entrepreneurship and innovation. 3. Mentorship by Industry Leaders Students work closely with mentors from various industries, including business, education, sports, and entertainment. Personalized guidance ensures their leadership skills are honed for real-world impact. 4. Hands-On Projects Participants will: Develop and lead a community service project, with funding opportunities from program partners. Host and facilitate discussions on pressing societal issues, broadcasted via podcasts, blogs, or local media. Organize a culminating Youth Summit to showcase their learning and achievements, including keynote speeches from participants. 5. Networking Opportunities Students build relationships with peers, mentors, and community leaders, establishing a robust support system for future endeavors. Program Features Duration: Full academic year (September–June). Weekly leadership workshops and bi-weekly mentorship sessions.
